Maybe she’s blissfully happy, darling. Maybe there’s a man under her skirt.
The Mistress
When she takes a step back - and looks from the outside - her vulnerability frightens her. Open naked feelings, honest and raw. Because good things from come leaping, I have been led to believe. But then I see her, being naive, I see her as the mistress, a convenient thing, a laugh at the end of the day - in the darkness. It breaks my heart. She doesn’t belong anywhere to anyone, no one is claiming her for their own, no one is standing on mountain tops shouting her name. She is the mistress, the lover, the whore. Inhabiting the loneliest place in the world. The place where dreamers get stuck.
A woman has strengths that amaze me, she can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens, she holds happiness, love and opinions, she smiles when she feels like screaming, she sings when she feels like crying, cries when shes happy, and laughs when shes afraid, her love is unconditional, there’s only one thing wrong with her and that is that sometimes she forgets what she is worth.
Wait for the person who pursues you, the one who will make an ordinary moment seem magical, the person who brings out the best in you and inspires you to be a better person. Wait for the one who will be your best friend, who you can tell anything to, the only person who will drop everything to be with you at any time no matter what. The person who makes you smile and laugh like no one else and when they look at you, you know how much they want you and need you. Wait for the person who wants to show you off to the world, even when you are just in sweats and a t-shirt, but appreciates it when you get dressed up for them. And most of all wait for the person who will put you at the center of their universe, because that’s where you belong.
Bright Eyes: Lua
Well, I know that it is freezing
But I think we’ll have to walk
Keep waving at the taxis
They keep turning their lights off
But Julie knows a party
At some actor’s West Side loft
Supplies are endless in the evening
By the morning they’ll be gone
When everything is lonely
I can be my own best friend
Get a coffee and the paper
Have my own conversations
With the sidewalk and the pigeons
And my window reflection
The mask I polish in the evening
By the morning looks like shit
And I know you have a heavy heart
I can feel it when we kiss
And many men stronger than me
Have thrown their backs out trying to lift it
But me, I’m not a gamble
You can count on me to split
The love I sell you in the evening
By the morning won’t exist
You’re looking skinny like a model
With your eyes all painted black
Keep going to the bathroom
Always say you’ll be right back
Well, it takes one to know one, kid
I think you’ve got it bad
But what’s so easy in the evening
By the morning’s such a drag
I’ve got a flask inside my pocket
We can share it on the train
And if you promise to stay conscious
I will try and do the same
Yeah, we might die from medication
But we sure killed all the pain
But what was normal in the evening
By the morning seems insane
And I’m not sure what the trouble was
That started all of this
The reasons all have run away
But the feeling never did
It’s not something I would recommend
But it is one way to live
Because what is simple in the moonlight
By the morning never is
Yeah, it was simple in the moonlight
Now it’s so complicated
It was so simple in the moonlight
So simple in the moonlight
So simple in the moonlight
But she never looked back with regret. There were so many ways for things to get better.
White Strips: Fell in love with a girl
Fell in love with a girl
fell in love once and almost completely
she’s in love with the world
but sometimes these feelings
can be so misleading
she turns and says “are you alright?”
I said “I must be fine cause my heart’s still beating”
She says “come and kiss me by the riverside, bobby says it’s fine he don’t consider it cheating”
Red hair with a curl
mellow roll for the flavor
and the eyes for peeping
can’t keep away from the girl
these two sides of my brain
need to have a meeting
can’t think of anything to do
my left brain knows that
all love is fleeting
she’s just looking for something new
and I said it once before
but it bears repeating
The Invitation
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human. It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithlessand therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty even when it’s not pretty, every day,and if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!” It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments. by Oriah Mountain Dreamer copyright © 1999 by Oriah Mountain Dreamer.

I don’t believe in an interventionist god
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if he felt he had to direct you
Then direct you into my armsInto my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my armsAnd I don’t believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that’s true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my armsInto my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my armsAnd I believe in love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candle burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermoreInto my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my arms, o lord
Into my arms
